Written in 2004, this song reflects on how deeply corruption feeds into poverty in the Philippines. It was inspired by a documentary on "pagpag" leftover food scavenged from restaurants and garbage sites, then recooked and eaten by the poor. It’s a heartbreaking image of survival in a system built to fail them. Meanwhile, ultra-rich politicians win elections with promises of change, only to turn their backs on the very people who put them in power. The poor stay poor. The rich get richer. This song is both a protest and a cry for justice in a country that deserves better.
The lyrics explore a stormy relationship, evoking sensations of longing, confusion, and intense connection. The recurring lines, “You tasted better in the rain,” and “wide awake,” create a sense of awakening—both physically and emotionally—as the protagonist navigates the complexity of their feelings. There's a blend of vulnerability and defiance, amplified by the powerful imagery of rain, nervous energy, and the constant tug of missing someone.
From underground venues to massive festivals, Saydie has dominated stages across the globe. Here's a glimpse of where we’ve been—each show a testament to the relentless energy we bring to the stage.
